So simply standing calmly in our body for more than a few minutes with quietly focused feeling awareness can seem a boring or "strange" way of being to some people. Yet this choice to relax & quiet the often-times cultural, media and personally driven norm of rushing to get to the next moment, to the next external activity, to consciously or habitually attempt to get away from more deeply feeling & understanding what we are really doing with our mind & how this expresses in feelings in our body and how such reflects and reinforces the emotional, mental and spiritual assumptions and habits we have acquired, is deeply clarifying, re-sensitizing, healing, positively transformation and pleasurable as we allow ourselves to open into this wuji ( emptiness of assumptions, pure feeling awareness ) realm of experiencing & relating to being, life and each other.
When we allow ourselves to come into balanced, comfortable central alignment in a standing meditation ( zhan zhuang ) posture, bringing our full relaxed yet focused attention into the feelings of being fulling present as and through-in our entire sensualizing - embodying consciousness as a unified energy, give ourselves the space to go deeper into the wisdom, clarity and healing pleasure our embodying consciousness is able to provide us.
We begin to feel the discomfort of where we hold excess tension, among other qualities. Most peoples tendency is to want to keep moving, or to only stay in such standing stillness for a few minutes or less, in order to attempt to avoid feeling the feelings of mental, emotional and / or physical discomfort which emerge into our awareness when we quiet and still our thoughts and body enough to perceive and feel them more fully.
Unique to zhang zhuang - standing meditation - is, rather than opening into meditative awareness while in a physical position that tends to cut off, fragment, desensitize or even devalue the integration full energy flow and feeling awareness of our emotional & sensualizing consciousness which is expressing through our body, zhan zhuang practice recognizes, respects & integrates our body as a crucial, balancing aspect of our experiencing & healthy learning as spirits embodying in human expression. As we quietly settle into our body, quieting the mental rush to judgements & mistaking multilayered assumptions & projections about ourselves, others and life for the truth and essence, we blossom in a deeply feeling rich, experiential way a pureness of being. A blissful experience of what is referred to as Wuji consciousness, which is the center and white space in a sense, of being. The quiet pre-birth before what is often perceived as duality, or Yin & Yang qualities of experience.
From this space we feel & can understand the natural divinity & love which is our core nature. And that this beautiful divinity is in no way sullied, less than, creepy, wrong or "sinful" by fully loving, accepting, integrating and enjoying freely our embodying feeling experiencing of life. It is quiet the reverse. Stillness in standing meditation allows us space to recognize & release the fearful armoring & connected negative projections and misinterpretations that can otherwise filter our perceptions, beliefs & thus experiences of other people and ways of being. Opening our awareness into embodying feelings richly harmonious, calm, centered, quietly appreciative and open to wonder and beauty.
