When in the womb, we are nourished by the flow of life energy ( referred to as qi or chi in Chinese meditation arts ) including blood, by our mother through the umbilical cord & our navel. From this center space we expand outward until after birth our upper and lower body are fairly equally balanced.
After birth, although we no longer take in physical nourishment directly through our navel, this general area a couple inches below the navel in the center of our body is our optimum gravitational center while standing. Metaphysically when we allow our attention / awareness to settle inside this area, which is referred to as the lower Tan Tien in Taoist meditative & martial arts practices, and the hara in Japanese meditative and martial arts, we deeply ground our spiritual, mental & emotional consciousness within our embodying consciousness.
This centering deeply into our physicalizing consciousness allows our mind to quiet the habitual noisy, distracting mental chattering that otherwise commonly occupies our awareness. Bringing us back more fully into the divinity of our embodying being in the present moment.
This centering deeply into our physical body also helps transform the culturally habituated & normalized mode of sympathetic nervous system oriented, adrenally stimulated fight or flight mode of living, interpreting & relating with ourselves, other people and the world overall.
Calming our feeling perceptions into a deeper, quieter & more sensitively balanced awareness resonating with the parasympathetic nervous system.
This change, when integrated with a truly open, quiet & unassuming mind clear of cultural and personal conditioning & biases, allows us much needed perceptual calm & openness to curiosity rather than projecting assumptive beliefs in our perceiving & relating with ourselves, our beliefs, other people and experiences.
It also cultivates an experiential awareness of how deeply we are physical beings in this lifetime on earth.
Far from being some "sinful", less spiritual, inconsequential or superficial aspect of being, experiencing & relating with our consciousness, each other & life overall through our sensualizing body consciousness deeply expands our spiritual, mental & emotional wisdom, healthy vitality, perceptual clarity, graceful embodiment and enjoyment of living and feeling awareness.
It is a balancing of heaven & earth energies, bringing divine & human love into union within us. Awakening our "spiritual" consciousness within our naturally divine fleshing body...
